Sketchy & Fesso’s Crash Course in Vaudeville – Level 1 

Next session level 1 – starts Sept 11, 2017  every Monday @ 8pm for 7 weeks – Studio G, 1300 Gerrard St E.

In this 7 week course, novice and experienced performers will be introduced to and practice the skills and techniques from various disciplines including clown, character, buffoon and slapstick. Learn the trade secrets that will be valuable in any vaudeville genre from burlesque to buffoon, variety to theatrical clown. New skills will be introduced and workshopped with the goal of creating and performing a unique vaudeville style act. Each week features a new mini workshop in a different discipline. Expand your performance toolbox, build on your comedic repertoire, and kill on stage.

About the Profs:

Jeff Kearns AKA Fesso (www.fesso.ca) AKA Scot Free (scotfree.ca) is a seasoned variety artist, circus performer and clown. He has spent the better part of the last 20 years as a world class street performer touring the world with his comedy juggling Show. Jeff moved to Toronto just over 5 years ago to help open the Centre of Gravity Circus Studio and create the Lunacy Cabaret. Jeff has trained Clown with Sue Morrison, Buffoon with Adam Lazarus and physical comedy and slapstick with James Keylon. He is the Artistic Director, Co-producer and co-host of The Lunacy Cabaret and continues to perform as Headline Act, MC and Feature Entertainer at festivals and corporate functions.

Dave McKay AKA Sketchy the Clown is a clown, comedic actor, director and producer. Dave is a co-producer of the Toronto Festival of Clowns and the Lunacy Cabaret. He has played comedic characters in film, TV and theatre productions. His directing experience includes the cross-Canada touring Miss April Day’s School for Burgeoning Young Strippers, Primal Broads and Omie Finds His Way. Dave is a graduate of the Second City Training Centre’s Conservatory program as well as having studied clown with Michael Kennard, bouffon with Adam Lazarus and character-based narrative with Ian Ferguson.

 

Sketchy & Fesso’s Crash Course in Vaudeville – Level 2 – next session Nov 2017

A continuation of the Crash Course that focuses on performing, writing and refining an Act or “turn”.
Prerequisites: Crash Course Level 1 OR some performance experience and an act that you want to work on.

This 7 week course focuses on the skills required to build a vaudeville act. Each week is split between a mini performance enhancing workshop and working on each student’s performance piece. The skills learned in this class prepare the performer for writing pieces for the stage. Expand your performance toolbox, build on your comedic repertoire, and kill on stage.
